Nature’s  classroom:

rewilding  education

A documentary on the untapped potential of forest schools, coming to you in the summer of 2026.

What if the key to solving the modern education crisis lies not in technology or innovation, but in returning to the forests? “Nature’s Classroom: Rewilding Education” takes viewers on an awe-inspiring journey to explore how children around the world are taught in harmony with nature, unraveling ancient wisdom and the untapped potential of forest schooling to transform the future of education.

The documentary

“Nature’s Classroom: Rewilding Education” is a cinematic journey into the world of forest schools. Beginning with the ancient wisdom of indigenous communities who raised their children in harmony with nature, we explore the origins of outdoor learning and how it evolved into the modern forest school movement.

We contrast this with the challenges of today’s Western schooling systems, where overcrowded classrooms, rising mental health issues, and teacher burnout have created a crisis in education. Through powerful stories, expert insights, and inspiring examples, this film offers a vision for the future: a rewilding of education that reconnects children with nature and fosters resilience, creativity, and well-being.

Meet the documentary makers

Alexandra Hensens

Founder of The Forest School and The Forest Academy

Alexandra Hensens is the founder of The Forest School in The Netherlands. With a passion for education and nature, Alexandra created a groundbreaking forest school that offered children the chance to learn, grow, and thrive in an outdoor environment. After three years of running a very successful school, she raised funding to open 15 more schools. But regulatory hurdles forced her to close her doors. Now, she is on a mission: to reopen and making it accessible to all children. The documentary aims to inspire audiences to rethink how children are educated, showcase beautiful forest schools around the world and to advocate for forest schools as an alternative/addition to the growing crisis in modern education.
